币界网报道:Kraken has obtained a Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) license under the European Union's Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation, marking a significant milestone in its European expansion strategy. The license, granted by the Central Bank of Ireland, allows Kraken to offer crypto trading and custody services across all 27 EU member states under a single regulatory framework. This makes Kraken one of the first major global exchanges to secure MiCA compliance ahead of the regulation's full implementation in December 2024. The company plans to use Ireland as its EU regulatory hub, joining other crypto firms like Coinbase and Gemini in establishing operations there. Kraken's CEO David Ripley emphasized that this approval demonstrates their commitment to working constructively with regulators while expanding access to digital assets. The MiCA license comes as Kraken faces ongoing legal challenges from the U.S. SEC, highlighting the exchange's strategic focus on regulatory clarity in Europe as the region emerges as a more crypto-friendly jurisdiction compared to the U.S.
