最新报道:According to Bijie.com, on August 7th, following a public prosecution by the Baokang County Procuratorate in Xiangyang City, Hubei Province, China, the local court sentenced five defendants—Yao, Yang, Liu A, Qiao, and Liu B—to prison terms ranging from two years and six months to three years, and fined them between 5,000 and 18,000 yuan each for concealing and hiding the proceeds of crime in a case involving the use of virtual currency to transfer illegal funds. Starting in April 2024, Yang, Yao, Liu A, and others established a group chat using an overseas messaging app. Knowing that the funds were likely proceeds of telecom fraud and other crimes, they used the virtual currency Tether to facilitate the transfer of illegal funds. The gang had a clear division of labor: Yang was responsible for providing funds, while Yao and Liu A contacted the upper-level fraudsters to obtain "cash withdrawal" instructions. "Drivers" such as Qiao and Liu B went to designated locations to collect the fraudulent funds. They then repeatedly converted virtual currency into the fraudulent funds, ultimately transferring the funds to the upper-level fraudsters, thereby concealing the illegal nature of the funds. An investigation revealed that the gang facilitated the transfer of a total of 2.09 million yuan in fraudulent funds, earning illegal profits ranging from 10,000 to 90,000 yuan. During the investigation, the prosecutors, through legal explanations and reasoning, encouraged the suspects to voluntarily return the illegal proceeds. Through various measures, over 1.5 million yuan in stolen funds were recovered, which was returned proportionally to 17 victims of telecom fraud after the verdict came into effect. "From overseas encrypted communication software to the use of virtual currency transactions to transfer illegal funds, from professional drivers withdrawing cash to the complex flow of funds through multiple accounts, this type of criminal activity is characterized by immediacy, chain formation, and concealment. The public must protect their property and avoid greed for small profits and committing crimes," a relevant official from the Baokang County Procuratorate warned. (Jimu News)
