币界网报道:Bitcoin Depot, a leading Bitcoin ATM operator, is facing increasing challenges from rogue law enforcement actions targeting its machines, according to the company's Chief Legal Officer Brandon Mintz. Speaking at the Bitcoin 2023 conference in Miami, Mintz revealed that police officers have been confiscating and even physically destroying Bitcoin ATMs without proper legal justification. These incidents often stem from misunderstandings about cryptocurrency regulations, with officers mistakenly believing the machines facilitate illegal activities. Mintz emphasized that Bitcoin Depot operates in full compliance with all applicable laws, including strict anti-money laundering (AML) and know-your-customer (KYC) requirements. The company has successfully recovered some machines through legal action, but the process is costly and time-consuming. Mintz called for better education for law enforcement about cryptocurrency regulations and Bitcoin ATM operations to prevent future incidents. Bitcoin Depot currently operates about 6,000 ATMs across the U.S. and Canada, making it one of the largest operators in North America. The company went public in 2022 through a merger with a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) and continues to expand its network despite these enforcement challenges.
