最新报道:According to Reuters, Laos' Deputy Energy Minister Chanthaboun Soukaloun revealed on October 17 that Laos is considering halting power supply to cryptocurrency mining farms by the first quarter of 2026. The goal is to reallocate domestic electricity to sectors that contribute more to economic growth. The government's current goal is to prioritize power supply to industries such as artificial intelligence data centers, metal refining, and electric vehicles. Laos has already begun cutting power to cryptocurrency mining farms, which currently consume approximately 150 megawatts of electricity, a 70% decrease from the peak of 500 megawatts in 2021 and 2022. Soukaloun stated, "Compared to supplying electricity to industrial or commercial users, the cryptocurrency industry cannot create value. In 2021, due to a domestic electricity oversupply, we proposed to the government to provide power to the cryptocurrency mining industry, but the industry currently creates few jobs and lacks a supply chain that benefits the economy. Laos had originally planned to halt power supply this year, but due to abundant rainfall, which increased hydropower production and enabled increased electricity exports to neighboring Thailand and Vietnam, power supply has continued."
