最新报道:According to Bijie.com, Improbable, the once-highly anticipated metaverse company, launched the mainnet for its layer-1 blockchain, Somnia, and its SOMI token on Tuesday. A statement stated, "Somnia, built for commercial-scale applications including DeFi, social, and gaming, entered the mainnet after a six-month testnet phase, which processed over 10 billion transactions, attracted over 118 million unique wallet addresses, and onboarded over 70 ecosystem partners." In 2022, UK-based Improbable became one of the most closely watched metaverse startups after raising $150 million from investors including SoftBank Vision Fund 2 and a16z. Amidst a bear market in cryptocurrencies, Improbable attempted to chart a new trajectory in 2023 when it sold its gaming services subsidiary, MPG, for nearly $100 million. At the time, MPG had 360 employees and clients included Activision Blizzard, Bethesda, and Epic. The sale represents part of Improbable's decision to focus on its Metaverse ambitions, including its partnership with Yuga Labs to develop its Otherside platform. Activity across the Metaverse has been at a minimum for nearly two years, with platforms like Meta's Horizon Worlds, The Sandbox, and Decentraland failing to attract significant user engagement. "We've been waiting for this moment for some time. The launch of the Somnia mainnet marks a turning point for real-world blockchain use cases and commercial applications," said Improbable founder and CEO Herman Narula in a company statement. "It is the first blockchain purpose-built for the speed, scale, and responsiveness required to power live virtual experiences." According to Somnia, the Somnia mainnet "can process over 1 million transactions per second with sub-second finality." The ecosystem boasts over "70 active projects," including Variance and Maelstrom. According to its website, the Somnia ecosystem has benefited from $270 million in "consolidated" capital.
