Decentralized finance (DeFi) developer Joey Santoro said a friend recently lost $2 million to a sophisticated deepfake scam. The scammer used a deepfake audio of Paul Faecks, founder of the stablecoin blockchain Plasma, to market a consulting position to Santoro's friend. During the call, the scammer tricked the victim into opening a file, allowing them to access their passwords and private keys. Santoro warned users to keep their cryptocurrency isolated from everyday devices whenever possible.
