Multiple users reported that the plug-in continued to write data in the background, up to 5MB per second, resulting in an average of 500.00GB of data being written to the solid-state drive (SSD) every day. The problem can be traced back to May 9, when user "Quanquan" reported that the unused MetaMask plug-in wrote 100.00GB of data in one day. On June 24, user ripper31337 recorded the problem in detail, pointing out that the cumulative write volume in three months reached 25TB. A Consensys spokesperson acknowledged the existence of "abnormally high disk activity", which mainly affects users with excessively large state data, and promised to fix the problem by reducing the frequency of writes and optimizing data capture strategies. The latest feedback shows that as of July 17, the vulnerability still exists. Some users said that the plugin has consumed 50% of the life of their SSDs. The MetaMask team responded again on July 19 that a repair plan is underway.
