Tariff chaos spoils new S&P record as traders brace for Trump's EU letter
-
最新报道：U.S. stocks retreated from record highs as investors reacted to escalating trade tensions after reports that former President Donald Trump drafted a letter threatening steep tariffs on European Union goods. The S&P 500 fell 0.6%, snapping a five-day winning streak, while the Dow dropped 200 points amid concerns over potential retaliatory measures. Analysts warn the move could reignite global trade wars if implemented, with EU officials signaling preparations for counter-tariffs targeting key American exports. Market volatility spiked as traders weighed the political implications of the leaked document, which proposes 25% duties on European autos and 10% across other sectors. The development comes amid ongoing negotiations for a new transatlantic trade framework.
