币界网报道:Bitkfraft Ventures and Brevan Howard Digital said Thursday they co-led a $30.5 million funding round for Distinct Possibility Studios, a new game studio founded by EverQuest co-founder John Smedley. The funds will be used to support the development and release of the AAA-style shooter "Reaper Actual," which is scheduled to be released on Steam and the Epic Games Store, according to a statement. It's been quiet in the AAA web3 gaming space lately, both in terms of newly raised funds and game releases. Gunzilla Games' battle royale game "Off the Grid" made some noise last year, gaining значительное engagement through a strong promotional campaign. The game studio also raised $30 million. Otherwise, most web3 gameplay seems to be focused on mobile games. Bitkfraft Ventures hopes Smedley, CEO of Distinct Possibility Studios, can work the magic he showed when he helped create the hit video game "EverQuest." "We believe that in gaming, the magic often happens at the intersection of two genres. We think Distinct Possibility Studios is a great example of this thesis. We see this magic happening with their open-world persistent shooter, Reaper Actual, which mixes the MMORPG and FPS genres in a truly unique way," said Carlos Pereira, general partner at Bitkraft Ventures. Smedley will bring his extensive gaming experience to the world of web3 gaming. The gaming executive previously worked at Amazon Game Studios and Sony Online Entertainment. He was also responsible for co-creating games such as Planetside 2 and H1Z1, according to a statement. In the open-world evacuation shooter Reaper Actual, players will engage in "player-versus-player-versus-environment scenarios, territory wars, resource extraction, and base management" on the island of Marova, according to a statement. Distinct Possibility Studios also said it has selected Etherlink, an EVM-compatible Layer 2 network built on Tezos, as the blockchain on which to build Reaper Actual. Tezos Foundation, Hashed, Delphi Ventures, Shima Capital, North Island Ventures and Decasonic also participated in the $30 million round, according to a statement.
