币界网报道:Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has proposed a new approach to digital identity systems called "Pluralistic Identity" (Plural ID) in a recent blog post, aiming to address growing privacy concerns in online identity verification. The concept involves creating multiple decentralized identifiers (DIDs) that serve different purposes, rather than relying on a single universal digital ID. Buterin argues this fragmented approach better protects user privacy by preventing correlation across services and reducing risks of mass surveillance. The proposal comes amid increasing global adoption of government-backed digital IDs, with over 1.3 billion people already using such systems worldwide. Buterin warns that centralized digital identity solutions create "a single point of failure" for privacy and security, citing examples like China's Social Credit System and India's Aadhaar program. His Plural ID framework would allow users to maintain separate digital identities for banking, social media, healthcare and other services without revealing connections between them. The Ethereum creator suggests implementing this through zero-knowledge proofs and other cryptographic techniques to enable verification without exposing personal data. Buterin acknowledges technical challenges in making such a system user-friendly while maintaining security, but emphasizes the urgent need for privacy-preserving alternatives as digital identity becomes more widespread. The proposal has sparked discussions among blockchain developers about potential implementations, though no specific timeline for development has been announced.
