币界网报道:The notorious North Korean hacking group Lazarus has laundered $1.95 million worth of stolen Ethereum through the cryptocurrency mixer Tornado Cash, according to blockchain analytics firm Elliptic. The funds originated from the $41 million hack of crypto casino Stake.com in September 2023, marking the latest move in Lazarus' ongoing efforts to obscure illicit gains. This laundering operation follows the group's previous transfer of $1.2 million from the same hack through Tornado Cash just days prior. Despite U.S. sanctions imposed on Tornado Cash in August 2022 for allegedly facilitating money laundering, the platform continues to operate, with Lazarus persistently exploiting its services. Elliptic's analysis reveals that since 2020, Lazarus has stolen over $3 billion in cryptocurrency across at least 38 attacks, primarily targeting decentralized finance protocols. The group's sophisticated laundering techniques involve converting stolen funds into Bitcoin via cross-chain bridges before ultimately cashing out through high-risk exchanges. This latest transaction underscores the ongoing challenges in combating crypto-related cybercrime and enforcing sanctions against mixers like Tornado Cash.
