币界网报道:Metaplanet, a Tokyo-based investment firm, has acquired an additional 1,234 BTC, bringing its total holdings to 2,300 BTC—now surpassing Tesla to become the world’s seventh-largest corporate Bitcoin holder. The purchase, valued at approximately $80 million, follows the company’s strategic pivot to Bitcoin as a hedge against Japan’s economic instability and weakening yen. Metaplanet’s board approved the latest acquisition using proceeds from a recent ¥1 billion ($6.26 million) bond issuance. The firm has been actively adopting Bitcoin since April, citing its potential as a reserve asset amid Japan’s high debt-to-GDP ratio and negative real interest rates. With this move, Metaplanet joins MicroStrategy and other corporations prioritizing Bitcoin over traditional treasury assets. Tesla, which once held 48,000 BTC, currently retains around 9,720 BTC after partial sales in 2021 and 2022.
