币界网报道:The U.S. federal government recorded a monthly budget deficit of $316 billion in February 2024, marking a 13% increase from the same period last year, according to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO). This brings the total deficit for the first five months of fiscal year 2024 to $828 billion, up from $723 billion in the previous year. The rise is attributed to higher government spending, particularly on Social Security, Medicare, and interest on the national debt, which surged by 43% year-over-year to $75 billion in February alone. Meanwhile, tax revenues grew modestly by 3% to $271 billion, driven by individual income and payroll taxes. The CBO projects the annual deficit could reach $1.6 trillion, exacerbating concerns over the nation's fiscal sustainability amid rising debt levels. Analysts warn that persistent deficits could strain economic growth and increase borrowing costs, with the federal debt now exceeding $34 trillion.
