Kaspersky analysts said that these malicious applications are mainly based on cryptocurrency themes, including a cryptocurrency information tracking application called "Coin" on the App Store, and a communication application SOEX with "cryptocurrency trading functions" downloaded more than 10,000 times on Google Play. Researchers believe that SparkKitty has the same source as the malicious virus SparkCat discovered in January this year, and the two share similar features. The malicious virus activity has been going on since at least early 2024, mainly targeting users in Southeast Asia and China, but technically it can attack users in any region.
