Mr. Muhlendorf has worked as a lawyer at the SEC and the Department of Justice. For the past nine years, he has been a partner at Wiley Rein LLP in Washington, DC, focusing on representing individuals and entities in white-collar crime defense and government investigations in criminal and civil securities enforcement cases. Acting Inspector General Katherine Reilly will return to the position of Deputy Inspector General. During his private practice, Mr. Muhlendorf often presided over sensitive internal investigations and provided compliance advice to clients. From 2023 to 2024, he was assigned to Wiley Rein as the Acting Inspector General of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transportation Authority (WMATA), leading approximately three dozen auditors and special investigators to conduct investigations and issue financial and performance audit reports. He also designed and implemented a whistleblower reward pilot program.
