币界网报道:TikTok has denied allegations by U.S. Representative Brad Sherman (D-Calif.) that its Chinese owners purchased $300 million worth of TRUMP memecoins as a "bribe" amid ongoing U.S. divestment pressure. Sherman claimed on X that TikTok's parent company was buying the tokens—which he alleged were created at no cost by former President Trump—as an illegal payment to delay enforcement of the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act. TikTok's U.S. policy account called the accusation "patently false," noting it contradicted Sherman's own past statements. The claim appears to stem from confusion with Nasdaq-listed GD Culture Group, which announced plans in May to acquire cryptocurrencies including the TRUMP memecoin as part of a $300 million treasury strategy. Though GD Culture operates TikTok-related services, it has no affiliation with ByteDance. The U.S. divestment deadline, extended multiple times by President Trump, now stands at September 2024.
