最新报道:A Kansas banker, Shan Hanes, former CEO of Heartland Tri-State Bank, embezzled $47 million in 2023, triggering the bank's collapse, and lost much of the stolen funds to overseas crypto scammers linked to a Philippines-based pig butchering scheme, according to a DOJ complaint. The scammers laundered over $225 million in USDT through a network of 93 deposit addresses and 100 intermediary wallets before funneling the funds into 22 primary OKX accounts tied to ITECHNO Specialist Inc. Hanes, who was sentenced to 24 years in prison, wired $47.1 million to a crypto wallet he controlled over six weeks, depleting the bank's liquidity and forcing its shutdown. The DOJ identified 434 victims, with Hanes being the largest, losing $3.3 million to the scam. The seized USDT may be added to a proposed federal crypto stockpile, though victim restitution remains uncertain.
