币界网报道:A former vice president of China Construction Bank has been sentenced to 23 years in prison for embezzling over $41 million in bank funds to invest in cryptocurrencies and other personal ventures. The Beijing court found Dong Yiming guilty of misappropriating public funds totaling 294 million yuan ($41.19 million) between 2015 and 2018 while serving as VP of CCB's Zhuhai branch. Prosecutors revealed Dong funneled the stolen money into Bitcoin mining operations, personal cryptocurrency investments, and luxury real estate purchases. The elaborate scheme involved creating fake loan documents and shell companies to conceal the illicit transfers. In addition to the prison term, Dong was fined 3.25 million yuan ($455,000) and ordered to repay all embezzled funds. The case highlights growing concerns about financial sector corruption in China's cryptocurrency space, coming just months after another high-profile banking executive was convicted for similar crypto-related fraud. Legal experts note this marks one of the most severe punishments handed down for financial crimes involving digital assets in China, reflecting the government's hardening stance against crypto-related malfeasance following its 2021 ban on most cryptocurrency activities.
