币界网报道:Since 2020, the Bhutanese government has used its abundant hydropower resources to quietly build Bitcoin mines. It currently holds Bitcoin reserves worth $1.3 billion, accounting for about 40% of the country's GDP, making it the world's third largest government Bitcoin holder. Ujjwal Dip Dahal, CEO of Bhutan's sovereign wealth fund, said the country sees Bitcoin as a means of storing value similar to gold. After the construction of four government mines in 2022, Bitcoin revenue has been used to make up for the decline in hydropower exports and provide two years of salary increases for civil servants. In 2023, Bhutan will cooperate with Singapore mining company Bitdeer to build a mine, and at the same time launch a crypto payment system to support tourism consumption. Former Prime Minister Dr. Lothai Tshering said that cryptocurrencies will be fully integrated into the economic system of the "Glep Mindful City" under construction. Bhutan currently operates at least six mines managed by Green Digital. The government plans to hold Bitcoin reserves for a long time and upgrade existing mine facilities.
