币界网报道:Modular blockchain Cartesi has been actively developing a new version of its Honeypot app that enables it to be used to enhance the security of rollups — and the latest version includes a host of new features. Honeypot v2 boasts Permissionless Refereed Tournaments (PRT), a playful name for a fraud proof system. It’s designed to ensure rollups’ resistance to Sybil attacks without requiring the network to rely on permissioned validators or heavy hardware. This isn’t the only innovation inside the Honeypot dapp. When Cartesi first launched Honeypot on Ethereum two years ago, the dapp effectively gamified security testing, turning a tedious process into something more rewarding. It did this by implementing community-incentivized audits and hackathons. Despite these bells and whistles, serious business is being handled in the background. Since the release of Honeypot, rollups have played an increasingly important role in on-chain activity, and the economic value transferred through them has soared. By processing transactions outside of the main Ethereum chain, rollups allow network users to take advantage of higher throughput and lower costs. However, the security of these layer 2 solutions is paramount, especially when they have to “rollup” multiple transactions into a single batch and submit it to Ethereum. As for Honeypot’s role in all of this, the application is designed to challenge the security of Cartesi rollup. Could someone hack into the application to gain access to the funds locked in the rollup contract? As long as those funds remain intact, Honeypot (and thus Cartesi) will work as intended. Honeypot is essentially the canary in the coal mine: an early warning system designed to alert blockchain users if a Cartesi rollup encounters problems. Since any project can launch its own Cartesi rollup, the benefits of Honeypot extend far beyond Cartesi itself. As Cartesi founder Erick de Moura explains, “Honeypot allows projects to stake their own capital to verify the integrity of their failure proofs before asking others to rely on them. It’s an incremental, transparent path toward trustless security that reflects the values on which this ecosystem is built.” If Ethereum is to scale further — and Vitalik Buterin admits it desperately needs to — it will be rollups that will do a lot of the heavy lifting. Honeypot therefore plays an important role in giving projects confidence that their rollup will work as expected, as it allows them to test its inviolability.
